Imphal, June 10 2011:
Expressing concern over the problems ahead of Manipur as a state of India, CPI national general secretary AB Bardhan Friday hinted that the recent statement given by the Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio during his visit to Manipur as another threat to the integrity of the state, Bardhan said speaking at the opening function of the three-day 20th state conference of CPI held here.
"The territorial integrity of Manipur has been threatened by many forces.
There is a negotiation in Delhi.
The agenda of the negotiation is not clear.
It might be related with the territorial integrity of Manipur and it is not sure that GoI will stand for the territorial integrity of Manipur," he asserted.
Referring to the recent visit of Neiphiu Rio, he said, "He (Rio) said something not favourable to the integrity of Manipur" .
Mention may be made that Nagaland CM had, on his May 28 visit in Senapati said that Nagas should be emotionally, culturally, politically and socially integrated under one umbrella political party.
Bardhan said that it will not be possible for the government to maintain peace in the state by deploying 50,000 armymen across the state.
The persisting conflicts in the state should be settled by political means.
Asserting that undergrounds extortion activities is the source of "rampant corruption" in Manipur, Bardhan supported UNLF chairman's assertion and called for an end to extortion in the name of revolutionary struggle.
Taking serious note that armed gangs posing as revolutionaries and extorting money from the public, UNLF chairman RK Meghen, who is presently under the custody of the NIA, had on Thursday urged all to shun such a culture and start earning their own livelihood instead of draining the public.
"I am happy with Meghen's state.
I welcome the statement (of Meghen) on behalf of CPI," he said.
He also talked at length on the issue of AFSPA which Irom Sharmila is demanding a repeal by launching an indefinite hunger strike and alleged the UPA government of not deliberating on the demand of the people.
The CPI state conference commenced today and will conclude on June 12.It is being held at Thiyam Meghachandra Shanglen, Dr Kamal Masaikol, Regional College Ground Lilong.
The conference will discuss various issues the state is facing like price rise, territorial integration and other political issues, said CPI Manipur state secretary, Langol Iboyaima speaking on the occasion.
The conference will also discuss for a Left Front Democratic Alliance in the state.
