Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2009 will be presented by Ratan Thiyam, Vice Chairman & Acting Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi, at a special investiture to be held at Kamani Auditorium here on Tuesday, 10 August 2010 at 6.30 pm.
The ceremony will be followed by a weeklong festival of Music, Dance and Theatre featuring Yuva Puraskar recipients of the year from 10-17 August 2010 at Kamani Auditorium.
In the past years, the eventful Yuva Puraskar ceremony was held at Meghdoot Open Air Theatre inside the Sangeet Natak Akademi complex here as a low key affair.
The 'Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar' was instituted in the year 2006 by Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, an autonomous body of Ministry of Culture, Government of India and apex institution of performing arts in the country.
The Puraskar is meant to encourage outstanding young talents in diverse fields of performing arts and give them national recognition early in life so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in life-long pursuit of their chosen art-form.
The Puraskar is given to performing artists below the age of 35 years as on 1st April of the year and covers music, dance, theatre, puppetry and scholarship in performing arts.
Award carries a prize money of Rs 25,000/.Thirty three young artistes from all over the country who had made a mark in their respective fields of performing arts were selected for the Ustad Bismillah Yuva Puraskar 2009 of Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama.
Three artistes from Manipur namely Moirangthem Meina Singh in Nata Sankirtana, Hanglem Indu Devi in Manipuri dance and Takhellambam Shyamkanhai Singh in Waree Leeba were among 33 other young artistes of India selected for this coveted award.
Two artistes from Assam namely Menaka P.P.Bora in Sattriya and Sukracharya Rabha in theatre direction and Hmar Zohmingliana from Mizoram were other artistes selected from the North Eastern states.
Nine artistes were selected in the field of music, eight in dance, as many in theatre and seven in traditional-folk, tribal dance, music, theatre and puppetry.

In the festival of music, dance and drama at Kamani Auditorium, Moirangthem Meina Singh will perform Nata Sankritana and Hanglem Indu Devi Manipuri dance on August 12 at 6.30 pm.
Menaka P.P.Bora will perform Sattriya on August 13 and Sukracharya Rabha's play Madaiah Muchi in Rabha language will be staged on August 15.Takhellambam Shyamkanhai Singh will perform Waree Leeba of Manipur and Hmar Zohmingliana will perform folk dance and music of Mizoram on August 16 .
