In a land dispute raw among the villagers of Lainouching of Chandel district and Sora village of Thoubal district, a dozer has been burnt down this morning.
A police vehicle rushing the spot to control the mob was also burnt down.
A police report received here said that villagers of Sora village rose up alleging that in the construction of the road connecting Lainou with Sora, land of the village has been affected and set fire to the dozer this morning at about 6 am.
After torching the dozer, there erupted a confrontation among the villagers of two villages of Sora and Lainou.
In the fracas, around 10 villagers sustained injuries.
Among the injured persons, driver of the dozer, Nongthonbam Hemanta (30) son of Selung of Kakyai Langpok, Y Tungam (40) of Minou and W Momo of the same village sustained serious injuries.
They have been referred to RIMS hospital, Imphal from Kakching Community Health Centre where other injure persons were treated.
A team of police led by SDPO, N Madhunimai rushed to the place on receiving information that the ten injure villagers have been kept confined by the villagers of Sora for rescue.
After the police rescued the ten injure persons, villagers rose up to block the taking away of them and started attacking to the police.
In the attack, a DI Tata of the police caused damage.
Following the incident, villagers of Laiching Lainou village lodged a complaint with the Tengnoupal police station stating that villagers were beaten up while the villagers of Sora lodged complaint with the Kakching police station stating that their land has been wrongfully encroached.
Mention may be made that sometime back, there had also confrontation between the villagers of two villages with regard to the land dispute.
