Noise level hit over 90 decibel on Diwali night

Diwali may be the festival of light, but the level of noise pollution on Diwali night in Imphal city from bursting of fire crackers reached 90.8 decibel mark, which is more than the permissible level in commercial areas.
Permissible level of sound/noise in a commercial area during day time is 65 decibel and 60 decibel during night.
Any sound/noise level beyond the permissible level is hazardous to human beings.
An team of officials from Manipur Pollution Control Board today used the Sound Level Metre (Type-I Microphone), an equipment for measuring sound level, at two places of Imphal city, namely Thangal Bazar and Singjamei Bazar, from 6 am to midnight today to monitor the level of noise pollution released from bursting of fire crackers during Diwali celebration.
The level of noise pollution recorded in Thangal Bazar area, where the equipment was installed near Hotel Anand Continental of Thangal Bazar, recorded 90.8 decibel.
This is said to be more than the permissible level of noise pollution in a commercial area.
The official team of the Manipur Pollution Control Board was led by its Assistant Environment Engineer W Rosan in carrying out the exercise of measurement of noise level today.
Field Inspector of the Board M Lurensana, Laboratory Assistant RK Santosh, Field Inspector H Basantakumar and Assistant Field Inspector S Dhanajit were other members of the team.
