The Red Shield Division has today inaugurated self empowerment programme worth Rs 4,,82,500 in Khunkhu Naga village in Senapati district.
GOC 57 Mountain Division Major General Shakti Gurung, VSM and Chairperson of Family Welfare Organisation, Red Shield Division, Madhu Gurung have distributed employment generating materials worth over Rs 4 lakh in the programme to villagers of Khunkhu Naga, Khunkhu Kuki, Premnagar, P Molding, Molhoi, Leimakhong and Konsha Khun.
The inauguration function of the self empowerment programme was graced by Maj Gen Shakti Gurung, VSM as the chief guest.
Chairman of Khunkhu Naga village, Ngumkhangboi was the president while Madhu Gurung, Chairperson of Family Welfare Organisation, Red Shield Division graced as the guest of honour.
As part of the programme, 30 'Loi' Looms worth over Rs 1lakh were distributed to Khunkhu Naga and Khunkhu Kuki villagers.
Twenty families from Khunkhu Naga, Premnagar, and Chingmang were given goats worth Rs 70,000 as part of self empowerment programme.
Ginger seeds and banana saplings worth over Rs 1lakh were distributed to Khunkhu Naga, Khunkhu Kuki and P Molding villagers.
Piglets worth Rs 60,000 were given to 20 families of Khunkhu Kuki, Molhoi and Leimakhong.
Pineapple suckers worth over Rs 1lakh were given to Khunkhu Naga, Khunkhu Kuki, Molhoi, P Molding and Konsha Khun.
Speaking on the occasion, GOC 57 Mountain Division, Maj Gen Shakti Gurung said peace and harmony will prevail in the state after the villages were engaged in self employment.
He also urged the beneficiary villagers not to waste the stuffs they got but to make it more useful and use them in more constructive way.
It has also been learnt during the programme that the Red Shield Division will distribute materials worth Rs 1,75,000 and Rs 1,05,000 in the second and third phases respectively to these villages, which have been identified as 'model villages' .
