Imphal, April 15 2009:
Hinting the removal of AFSPA in Imphal Municipal area, Chief Minister O Ibobi today said that those political parties making the issue of the repeal of AFSPA to entice voters in every election will not bring any good.
Addressing an election related Congress meeting today at the Kakwa Lilando Lampak, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the Congress has begun the process of repealing AFSPA from Manipur.
He said that the people should not neglect the MP election rather they must turn out in large number to vote in favour of a candidate who has shared the confidence of the ruling party at the Centre.
Taking swipes against the rival political parties, Ibobi said that the CPI will not be able even to take the lead in a single Assembly constituency.
Likewise, he expressed disparity that no one will vote for BJP because of it being a communal party.
Harping on AFSPA, Ibobi persuaded the people that there is no significance in electing the political parties which made the removal of AFSPA their agenda while adding that the Congress had began repealing it in some parts of the state.
The Chief Minister also reiterated that AFSPA will automatically go when the incidents of extortions, hurling explosive at individuals' houses and firing, etc are done away with in the whole of Manipur.
Taking a dig at the MPP candidate, Th Chaoba, Ibobi said that he (Chaoba) was unable to achieve the accomplishments attained by the present Government during his tenure as the Union Minister.
Counting the failures of Chaoba, Ibobi wonders whether Chaoba had initiated any attempt to shift the AR from Kangla, upgrade MU into Central University, to raise RIMS on par with AIMS, to facilitate rail line till Imphal, during his time as the Union Minister.
Ibobi also wants to know why Congress workers have been targeted by some militant groups during the last few months while saying that every individual must be guaranteed his/her right to vote.
Striking a tough posture, Ibobi asks whether the some groups have turned against the Congress because Kangla has been vacated by AR or due to the conversion of MU into Central University, or is it an attempt to halt various developmental works in the state.
Ibobi further said that the Congress candidate in the outer Manipur failed to win in the 14th Lok Sabha election due to suppression/capturing of vote by some armed men.
He said that anything gained by force doesn't last long.
The Congress meeting was also attended by MPCC President Gaikhangam, PHED Minister TN Haokip, Manipur Assembly Speaker Sapam Budhichandra, MLA Bijoy Koijam, MPCC General Secretary (Admin) Bidyapati Senjam and various other Congress workers.
