Imphal, August 07 2009:
Working Committee of the Apunba Lup (WCAL) has strongly condemned the act of the government in contemplating to book the arrested Apunba Lup leaders under NSA.
A press statement of the WCAL noted that the government is causing inconveniences to the people and trying to turn a deaf ear to the demands that the Chief Minister resign from his post on moral ground, to give fitting punishment against the guilty policemen and officers involved in the Khwairamband incident of July 23, and unconditional release of its arrested leaders, by imposing curfew.

Reiterating its stand to continue the agitations, the WCAL statement spelled out that Apunba Lup will organise sit in protests at various places in the state from 11am of August 8 by defying curfew.
It stated that the protests will be carried out demanding the resignation of CM on moral ground, punishment against guilty policemen and police officers who concealed the fact in the Khwairamband incident, and the unconditional release of Apunba Lup leaders.
It appealed all concerned to come out and join in staging the protests by defying curfew.
The statement further stated that a massive rally will be taken out and submit a memorandum to the Governor on August 10 if its demands are not fulfilled by August 9 .
WCAL has also denounced the arrest of several bandh sponsors on criminal charges while the police commandos have committed atrocities.
Rhetorically asking who the real criminal is, it stated that it is not an exaggeration to say that the CM has turned to be the head of terrorists.
It asked if there would be no reason to term the CM as a criminal.
Registering its condemnation on the assault of Naoroibam Prakash of Langthabal Mayai Leikai by the police on Thursday evening and the arrest of several womenfolk, the WCAL statement observed the incidents as the first of its kind, caused to happen by the Manipur CM.
It then asked where else in the world has ever happened the incidents that were happening in Manipur.
