Imphal, March 07 2009:
The meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Manipur Legislative Assembly held this evening has decided to have only three sittings in the coming Manipur Legislative Assembly session which is scheduled to begin from March 17.Accordingly, the Assembly session will begin on March 17 and end on March 19.The apprehension that the Governor's address of the House will likely be a contravention of the election model code of conduct has also been petered out, the Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary, Megharaj informed Hueiyen Lanpao, after the BAC meeting Saturday evening.
He said that the state government's reservation over the matter has been removed by the Election Commission this evening by saying that the commission doesn't deter the Governor from addressing the House.
He however said that with an attempt to uphold the Election code of conduct, the coming Assembly session will not be as usual.
It will discuss only pressing issues.
Even if the Governor is to address the session on the first day, the same will be discussed in a sitting to be held after the election to facilitate the passing of the address.
The Government will also table vote on account of the state budget only for four months.
The sitting will also introduce only two Appropriation Bills and questions from members will also be restricted to a limited number.
This will be done to safeguard the election code of conduct, Megharaj said.
