Imphal, November 05 2010:
Three persons including a head mason were hospitalized today when the owner of a house they were constructing attacked them with a machete.
The incident occurred at the house of Soram Rajen (41) of Nagamapal Soram Leirak under Imphal police station.
The house owner chopped them with the machete when the head mason and one of his co-workers asked for payment of pending wages around 12.30 pm today.
The injured head mason was identified as Labuktongbam Roshan Sharma (27) son of late Momon of Kakyai Mayai Leikai.
The injured worker was identified as Wahengbam Priyobarta (27) son late Ningthem of Kakyai Mayai Leikai.
The third injured in the attack was identified as Thokchom Boy (28) son of Th Dolendro of Tera Khamnam Leirak.
He was attacked by the house owner when he intervened to stop the house owner chasing the head mason and his worker with the machete.
He was at his chicken care centre when the incident occurred.
Roshan sustained injuries in the forehead.
He suffered a bone fracture in the attack.
Priyobarta received injuries in both of his hands.
Hospital sources stated the conditions of Roshan and Boy as serious.
They have been admitted at RIMS Hospital.
According to the injured head mason and his co-worker, they were going to take Rs 15,000 to be received from the house owner as wages of RCC roofing done on October 3 .
They requested to clear the dues before the Ningol Chakouba festival.
When the house owner refused any payment they asked to be paid at least Rs 10,000 but instead of negotiating the matter, the house owner picked up a big thangjou and started attacking them.
He first hit Roshan who stood nearby him and then furned to Priyobarta.
Boy who was in his chicken centre, one seeing the scene, rushed in to intercede.
But instead of heeding to his intervention, the house owner turned on him and hit him.
The house owner seemed to be in drunkard state, it is said.
Imphal police has registered a case but whether the accused was arrested or not could not be confirmed from the police station.
