Imphal, April 04 2009:
The Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) should be repealed from Manipur at the earliest, said former Principal of DM College, H Sanahanbi.
H Sanahanbi was speaking today while participating in the relay hunger strike organised by the Sharmila Kanba Lup at PDA Complex, Porompat.
She said that the Act was imposed in the state long time ago much against the will of the people but the then government had imposed by turning a deaf ear to the hue and cry raised by the people.
Sanahanbi said that the then government might have imposed the Act with good intention to subdue the activities of the militants but in reality it would not be wrong to say that it had caused the multiplication of their activities.
She said that it is more than the time to introspect why Sharmila has fast for this long.
She also said that how the land can be peaceful while killing incidents happened daily without any sign of ending under the provision of the AFSPA.
The people of the state have been living like fishes reared in a kettle, not been able to live and not completely dead.
She also appealed the underground groups as well as the government forces not to hurl and explode bombs at crowded places.
