A poster dedicated to the fasting stir of the Irom Sharmila Chanu on the demand for repeal of the AFSPA in solidarity to her cause presented by Naharol Sahitya Khutam Lup was released by Naorem ongbi Thoinu, a victim of rape by the security forces today in a function held at the office of the Human Rights Alerts at Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai.
The poster with the slogan 'Judicial fraternities of the planet unite against AFSPA, the lawless law' also displayed poems written in support of the stir of the Sharmila and on the account of the atrocities under the act on the other side.
Convener of the Naharol Sahitya Khutam Lup, Birmangol Pukhrimayum speaking on the occasion said that in the poster a drawing in which Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh keeping the Jeevan Reddy Commission report on AFSPA under his feet and keeping Sharmila in the cross is shown.
The poster will be distributed to the people across the state and will conduct campaign for extension of support to the stir of Sharmila, he added.
During the function, vice president, Divine Life Society, Manipur P Kunjamohan recited poems based on violation of human rights under the draconian law and Sharmila to the gathering.
The function was also attended by brother of Sharmila, Shinghajit, executive director of Human Right Alerts, Babulu Loitongbam and other human rights activists.
It is pertinent to mention that the poster was released by Naorem ongbi Thoinu wife of Ishingjao of Kakching Chumnang Ching of Thoubal district who was a rape victim of the security forces.
She was raped on June 1988 by a personnel of the 5/5 Gorkha Regiment named N Pratap Singh (rifleman no.5453921) who intruded to her home.
Even though her husband lodged complaint to the concern authorities, the family is yet to get justice and the rifleman had been freed with no charge against him.
