The fasting agitation carried out by the Sharmila Kanba Lup in solidarity with the hunger striker Irom Sharmila for the repeal of the AFSPA, 1958 has entered its 55th day on Monday.
Participated by members of various organisations, the hunger strike by the Irom Sharmila Kanba Lup has been started since December 10 last.
A participant of the ongoing hunger strike, Moirangthem Purnima, a resident of the Kongba Makha Nandeibam, said that "I have participated in the hunger strike as a mother showing token of solidarity to a child (Sharmila), who has been fasting over the last several years, though only for a single day," while demanding the authorities concerned to repeal the Black Law at the earliest possible time.
She said that the agitation launched by the Sharmila Kanba Lup will go on until the Government looks into the matter.
She further said that it is the responsibility of all the women of the land to cause the repeal of this Act while calling every abled-mother of the State to come out and join the cause of the Sharmila Kanba Lup.
She said this is our responsibility.
Purnima also said that Sharmila is not taking up the agitation not only for her personal gain, rather she has been in such a state just for the sake of our future.
Today's hunger strike was participated by over a hundred womenfolk drawn from Kongba Uchekon, Kongba Langnaibi, Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai.
