Moirangthem Meina Singh in Nata Sankirtana, Hanglem Indu Devi in Manipuri dance and Takhellambam Shyamkanhai Singh in Wari Leeba from Manipur were among 32 young artistes of India selected for Ustad Bismillah Yuva Puraskar 2009 of Sangeet Natak Akademi, the National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama.
Sources from the Sangeet Natak Akademi on Wednesday says that Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar carries a purse money of Rs 25,000/-.The Yuva Puraskar will be presented at a special ceremony, presided over by the Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi in the coming months.
The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, given to artistes below the age of 35 years, was introduced in the year 2006 with the objective of identifying and encouraging outstanding young talents in diverse fields of performing arts and giving them national recognition early in their life, so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields.
Nine artistes including Moirangthem Meina Singh were selected in the field of music; eight artistes including Hanglem Indu Devi in dance, eight in theatre and seven including Takhellambam Shyamkanhai Singh in traditional/ folk/tribal dance/music/theatre and puppetry.
Born on March 1, 1977, Moirangthem Meina of Keishamthong Maning Longjam Leirak, Imphal trained in Nata Sankirtana from different Gurus namely Ibohal Macha, Shyamchand and Lakpati.
He completed post diploma course in Nata Sankirtana from Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy , a premier Institute of Manipuri dance under Sangeet Natak Akademi.
He is a B-grade artiste of All India Radio, Imphal.
Hanglem Indu Devi was born on February 1, 1978 at Khurai Puthiba Leirak, Imphal.
She is also an ex-student of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy .
She got training in Manipuri dance from different Gurus namely Lokeswore, Ibopishak, Babu, Gambhini, Leibaklotpi and Ranjana.
Born on March 24, 1982, Takhellamabam Shyamkanhai Singh of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal needs no introduction.
He is a well known news reader of ISTV, a premier TV channel of Manipur.
An M A from Manipur University , Shyamkanhai received training in Wari Leeba (Story telling) from Guru Amom Lala Singh since 1992 and got further training in the field from different Gurus namely Okram Baruni Singh and Ch.
Kondum Singh.
