Imphal, November 23 2011:
In all 242 OBC candidates have been allegedly appointed on the sly in the recruitment of primary teachers on contract basis.
Addressing a press conference convened jointly by 23 candidates, who have appeared in the recruitment examination for primary teachers, at Manipur Press Club today, RTI activist Sanasam Loken said that the matter has come to light following an RTI application.
He pointed out that in the said recruitment advertisement issued by the government of Manipur on September 12, 2006, it had been clearly mentioned that the total number of primary teachers to be recruited on contract basis was 910 posts from general category, 442 from ST category, 29 from SC category and 42 reserved posts for physically handicapped and no advertisement had been ever issued in connection with recruitment of these OBC candidates.
Loken recalled that subsequent to the publication of leaked out results of the recruitment in Hueiyen Lanpao daily, the government of Manipur came up with a notice on March 9, 2011 to appoint the selected candidates but the merit list was declared on September 4, 2011 .
However, much to the surprise of many candidates, 242 more OBC candidates have been given appointment in addition to six ST handicapped candidates and 2 OBC handicapped candidates.
No recruitment notice or advertisement had been ever issued in this regard, Loken pointed out.
Furthermore, he pointed out that among the recruited primary teachers, four of the candidates are blind while another is hearing impaired and such recruitment contravene the laid down norms.
Moreover, one candidate identified as Sagolsem Sunil has appeared against three different roll numbers (2283, 25977 and 2387) in the result of the recruitment and one Laishram Sunita, a General category candidate has been selected in the ST category.
Surprisingly, one Tonbram Bedamani, Roll no, 39058, who had not been selected in the written examination, has been given appointment.
Contending that the results of the recruitment test should not be implemented, Loken has warned of taking up the case with the Supreme Court if necessary rectifications were not made by the authorities concerned of the state government.
