Imphal, August 12 2009:
Governor Gurbachan Jagat has greeted the people of Manipur on the sacred occasion of Patriots' Day, 2009 which falls on Thursday.
"It was on this day (August 13, 1891) that the great heroes of Manipur - Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal general, Niranjan Subedar, Kajao and Chirai Naga - made the supreme sacrifice on the gallows for protection of the freedom of their motherland," the Governor noted in his greeting message.

The message urges all to follow the footprints and ideals and serve the country to make the observance a meaningful one.
It also calls the people to renew the pledge that we should uphold and strengthen the bonds of national unity and integrity and march ahead towards a peaceful and prosperous Manipur in India.
In the meanwhile, MPCC president Gaikha-ngam has appealed to the youths of Manipur to rededicate themselves to the task of consolidating unity of the state and to bring about prosperity.
In a message made available to press by Chairman of Media Department, MPCC, Seram Mangi on the eve of the Patriots' Day, Gaikhangam said, peace will be real tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives in defending the independence of Manipur.
