Imphal, December 11 2009:
The northern Raphei Students' Union (NRSU), Ukhrul district, Manipur has urged Chief Minister Okram Ibobi to upgrade the SDO and SDPO at Jessami and also to inaugurate the 33/KV power sub-station at Namrei, Ukhrul district simultaneously.
The NRSU submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard today.
In the memorandum signed by President SA Ramnganing and Secreatary, Assembly Affairs, Shimthar A Shatsang, the NRSU reminded the Chief Minister of his visit to Namrei village in Chingai Assembly Constituency to lay the foundation stone for the 33/KV power sub-station at the village last year.
The NRSU stated in the memorandum that the works, such as development of approach road and other infrastructure has been completed now.
The people of the area have repeatedly requested the authority concerned to inaugurate the sub-station but till date no action has been taken.
This is a sad affair, to say the least, the memorandum stated.
The memorandum further stated that the NRSU is going to hold its golden jubilee cum sports meet from January 28 to February 4 next year at the nearby Kharasom village.
In order to meet the need for electricity, the NRSU urged the Chief Minister to inaugurate the power sub-station at Namrei at the earliest possible time, it added.
Besides the proposed golden jubilee celebrations, the winter season is filled with festivals and other social activities such as X'mas and New Year celebrations, soon to be followed by the state festival of Lui-Ngai-Ni, the memorandum affirmed.
The NRSU pleaded with the Chief Minister through the memorandum to inaugurate the power sub-station at Namrei and upgrade the SDO and SDPO at Jessami simultaneously on the same day.
Since Jessami is located at the border between Nagaland and Manipur, it is an important village, the memorandum pointed out and recalled that problems of land encroachment cropped up from time to time.
The NRSU considers this matter as very serious which calls for serious attention, the memorandum stated.
Copies of the memorandum had been given to Minister of Power, Government of Manipur, MLA of 45-Chingai AC and editors of three newspapers including this newspaper.
