Imphal, August 10 2009:
Secretary, Manipur State Committee, Communist Party of India (CPI), Langol Iboyaima today told reporters that there is no question of the CPI withdrawing from the Congress-led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur.
He clarified that the news item published in this newspaper in today's edition that "CPI decides to part ways with Congress..." is a wrong news.
He said, it is a different matter that different opinions are expressed from the grass-root level of the party.
However, the party has not taken any decision to split ways with the Congress and resign from the ministry.
Meanwhile, it is learnt through various reliable sources that following the reports in the Hueiyen Lanpao editions, there were a few moments of tension between the CPI and Congress at the Chief Minister's office secretariat today.
Some CPI leaders inluding Health Minister Ph Parijat, MLA N Mangi, MLA Usham Devendra, etc.
met Chief Minister O Ibobi in his office chamber today.
They are reported to have clarified to the Chief Minister that there was no decision as such to withdraw from the SPF ministry.
However, some Congress MLAs are reported to have told the CPI leaders that without some basis, the Hueiyen Lanpao would not have been able to publish the news.
Some important sources within the CPI must have informed the newspaper.
They are also reported to have told the CPI leaders that if they want to leave the SPF, they can leave it.
The Congress has no problem, the Congress MLAs are learnt to have said.
But the CPI leaders who went to meet the Chief Minister told media persons that their meeting focused on the current issues happening in the state.
They talked about how to solve the present crisis and withdrawal of curfew.
The Chief Minister informed them that a letter has been sent to the Gauhati High Court requesting it to appoint a sitting Judge to head the commission of judicial inquiry to investigate the Khwairamband Market firing, they said.
