IN A move to hunt talented sportspersons besides promoting various forms of sports in the remote areas of Chandel district, an All Tribal Sports Meet held at Pallel under the aegis of 26 Sector Assam Rifles, Pallel has been concluded today.
The meet which is being organized by 20 Assam Rifles in which the popular game of football was also showcased since October 19 last.
A total of 10 teams- ACSA Aimol, YVA Meitei, SPYC Maring, CYC Chothe, KYC Moyon, YC Thadaou, LYC Monsang, UNYDA Aimol, TYC Lamkang, MSYDO Maring, after various league rounds of matches.
In the final match which was played on Sunday (December 22), LYC Monsang won the trophy.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Balbir Singh, Commander of 26 Sector of Assam Rifles termed sports as an important facet of personality development.
Addressing the youth the Commander emphasized on importance of sports for generating goodwill and harmony amongst various communities of Manipur.
He further exhorted all present to take a cue from this sports meet to endeavour to build bridges to overcome the fissures in the society and herald formation of prosperous and vibrant Manipur.
The Brigadier also added that though a team has won the trophy, but it is people of Chandel district who have emerged winners.
Without their participation and support this tournament would not had been successful.
Keeping up with the momentum a running trophy was unveiled by Commander 26 Sector, which would ensure that this event is included in the sports calendar of the district.
A cultural show was also organized showcasing various dances of various tribes to mark the occasion on Monday.
