Imphal, March 05 2009::
Close on the heels of the public meeting convened by the Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) resolving to strongly object the Manipur Government cabinet decision to entrust the Umanglai and all its related rituals to Govindajee Temple Board, the UKAL has submitted a representation to the Governor, Gurbachan Jagat urging for his necessary administrative measures.
The memorandum of the UKAL signed by its Convener, M Maniton, which was made available to the press has said that the cabinet resolution was a real challenge to Secularism of Indian Constitution while also mentioning the resolution adopted in the public meeting on March 1 under the aegis of UKAL, an apex body formed to counter-react the 'anti-constitutional' decision, to strongly object the decision and to earnestly request the Government to withdraw the decision before March 7.Recalling an earlier verdict of the Guwahati High Court denying such decision of Manipur (CR 206 of 1987), the memorandum also urges not to place Sanamahi religion a recognized religion by the Government of India subordinate to the Hindu deity 'Govinda' and to respect the Preamble of Indian Constitution.
Calling the Governor to initiate proper measures towards the cause, the representation further brings to the notice of the Governor over the resolutions of the public meeting convened by UKAL that a strong and serious agitation shall be launched from March 8 if not the cabinet decision is being withdrawn by March 7.
