Symposium on SRI method

Imphal, April 29 2011:
A one day State Level Symposium on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) Method in Agriculture organised by the Development and Relief Department, Rongmei Naga Baptist Association was held today at Hotel Classic, Imphal.
Principal Secretary RD&PR Dr J Sureshbabu IAS and Joint Director ICAR Dr N Prakash graced the symposium as chief guest and president respectively.
MS Sarangmath of NABARD Regional Unit Imphal and Agriculture Officer Senapati Gojendra also attended as guests of honour.
Speaking in the occasion, Dr J Sureshbabu said that maintaining food security of the state is also an important objective of creating a good economy and society.
Increasing food products according to the increasing population is very important.
Adopting SRI method successfully in many parts of the country has enables India to produce its own adequate food today, he said.
Secretary, Development and Relief Department RNBA Mumai Pheiga said that there will be no development in a society unless it get rids of hunger.
Manipur has a total population of around 27 lakh.
However the food production in the state is limited.
In order to cover the shortage, farmers should the new scientific SRI method in agriculture, he said.
