Womenfolk of Wangoo in Bishnupur district today marched a protest rally against the harassment allegedly meted out to the villagers by the troops of Assam Rifles on night of August 10 last.
In the police firing tear gas shells to quell the rallyists, a 40-year old woman sustained injury.
Since the nabbing of one Sagolsem Nimaichand running a shop at Wangoo Bazar by the troops of 7 Assam Rifles on the night of August 10 at about 12.30 on the charge of being an underground, personnel of Assam Rifles harrsing the villagers, women participating in the rally alleged.
Before carrying out the rally, a sit-in protest was also staged at Wangoo Bazar by the womenfolk decrying the July 23 firing incident in which two people including a young pregnant woman killed and injured to five other and burnt down effigy of the chief minister.
While burning down the effigy, they also shouted slogans demanding resignation of chief minister, O Ibobi and DGP, Y Joykumar.
After burning down the effigy, gathering womenfolk marched a protest rally against alleged nabbing of one shopkeeper named Sagolsem Nimaichand (30) son of late Maimu, Wangoo Makha Leikai of Wangoo Makha Leikai running a shop at Wangoo Bazar on the night of August 10 from his own shop by the Assam Rifles posting at Sangang.
When Nimaichand was secretary of the local club, he was forcibly use in collection of money from the village by an underground group.
This could not say, he is an underground, they protested adding that since the instant, he had resigned from the post of secretary and earning livelihood by running the shop since the last around 10 year.
They also denounced the reportedly AR charge of running his shop with the money invested by the underground group stating it was a baseless one.
The rally started from Wangoo parking marched upto Kumbi police station passing in front of the AR post at Sagang.
They carried placards with slogans, "We want peace, take out AR from Sagang, AR harass people," etc.
A team of Kumbi police led by its OC tried to blocked the rally by snatching the banner and placards from the rallyists but women took back the placards forcibly from police and proceeded the rally further.
Later police efforted to disperse the rally using tear gas shells injuring a woman identified as Sanasam Tababi (40) wife of Tomal of Wangoo Parking.
