KKDC puts spotlight on Cancer patients

The first annual gathering of Kishamthong Kendra Development Committee for Persons Touched and Strike by Cancer was conducted at Haobam Marak Laikhurembi Shanglen today with Health Minister L Jayantakumar, who is also the president of Manipur Cancer Society, as chief guest.
Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council N Raghumani Singh presided over the function which was also attended by Councillor of IMC Ward no.12 A Romakanta Singh and Councillor of Ward no.9 S Sunil Singh as guests of honour.
In all 31, cancer patients including two children, 18 women and 11 men from different Leikais of Keishamthong Kendra attended the function and shared their experiences.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister Jayantakumar called upon the people not to be afraid of Cancer and pointed out that prevention of Cancer is possible and easy.
The Minister also assured that necessary assistance and benefits would be provided to cancer patients after taking a decision in this regard at the cabinet meeting.
In his presidential address, Raghumani noted that that role and responsibilities of Keishamthong Kendra Development Committee for Persons Touched and Strike by cancer is remarkable and more hands from different directions should also join the effort.
Ahanthem Romakanta observed that his notion against cancer has been dispelled after interaction with persons living with cancer during a recent trip to TMC Mumbai for treatment of his brother.
Among other speakers, Dr L Gojendra, a cancer survivor and vice president of Manipur Cancer Society pointed out that will power play an important role in fighting against cancer.
Birendra Kangjam, father of a cancer patient and secretary of Manipur Cancer Society observed that even if cancer cannot be conquered, it can be beaten.
He also informed that 2012 World Cancer Congress is scheduled to be held at Montreal, Canada and president of Manipur Cancer Society L Jayantakumar and he himself would be attending the Congress to be held under the aegis of Union of International Cancer Control (UICC), which comprises 300 member units from 100 countries.
