Imphal, October 24 2011:
Amid economic blockades and bandhs which have already caused serious problem to the state Government and taken a heavy toll on the people of Manipur due to price-hike and scarcity of essential commodities, all the State Government employees under the aegis of Joint Administrative Council of All Manipur Trade Union and All Manipur Government Employees' Organization (JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO), including Manipur Secretariat Service Association have decided to launch an indefinite cease work strike from today, to protest against the State Government's inability to fully implement the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission.
In a statement, the JAC said that the extreme step has been taken up, as the Congress-led Secular Progressive front (SPF) Government has failed to implement its promise to implement the 6th Pay recommendation for more than a year and indulging in delaying tactics and deliberately waiting for the election code of conduct to come into force.
It said the JAC and State Government employees know that the general public and the student community in the State will face hardship due to the agitation and it will also incur huge lose of income in the State but as the Government has not put into action its assurance till now, the JAC is compelled to take the decision to launch indefinite cease work strike to pressurize it.
All the employees of other States have started enjoying the 6th pay recommendation but it is unfortunate that SPF Government which has served two consecutive terms has kept the living standard of the State employees including pensioners and family pensioners in dire strait, the aggrieved JAC alleged.
The JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO are closely mulling the possibility of intensifying the strike in the coming days to achieve their genuine demand, said Priyobarta Singh, one of the members of the JAC on Monday.
