Imphal, June 23 2009:
Chief of Army Staff, General Deepak Kapoor visited Manipur today along with Mrs Kapoor and after reviewing the security arrangements and calling on the Governor left for Rangapahar.
In a statement, PIB (Defence Wing) said that the Army Chief visited 57 Mountain Division at Leimakhong where he was received by the GOC of the Division Maj Gen Shakti Gurung and Mrs Madhu Gurung, Chairperson of Red Shield Family Welfare Organisation.
The Army chief reviewed the security arrangements and was briefed by Maj Gen Shakti Gurung, said PIB and added that he acknowledged the good work done by the Division in the past one year.

General Kapoor also commented on the synergy which has been achieved between all the security forces operating in the State, especially the State police and troops of 57 Mountain Division and added that the synergy is reflected in all the operations being conducted in the State.
The synergy was reflected in all the tangible results achieved in recent months, said the PIB, quoting the Army chief.
During his interaction at Leimakhong, Gen Kapoor also said that the GOC of 57 Mountain Division in conjunction with the civil administration in Assam should continue to be proactive in North Cachar Hills District to achieve a favourable environment.
General Kapoor also met the troops who participated in Operation Summer Storm and felicitated them, said the statement further.
The Chief also complimented Maj Gen Shakti Gurung, Chief Secretary of Manipur, the State DGP and Additional Chief Secretary, said PIB.
After a short halt at Leimakhong, General Kapoor left for Rangapahar.
Earlier in the day, General Kapoor was received by Lt Gen VK Singh GOC-in-C of Eastern Command, Lt Gen RK Loomba GOC of 3 Corps and Maj Gen AK Choudhury, IG AR (S).
The Army chief was briefed on the security scenario by the IG AR (S) at Mantripukhri, said the spokesman of Assam Rifles in a statement.
Lauding the efforts of the soldiers in containing the situation in the State, the Army chief asked them to continue with the good work in a professional manner and provide all assistance to the people.
Later Gen Kapoor called on the Governor at Raj Bhawan.
