Imphal, October 13:
The second consultative meeting of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for development plan of Imphal was held today at the Ist MR banquet hall under the aegis of MAHUD Department with Chief Minister O Ibobi as chief guest, said a DIPR press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi said plans are afoot to develop Imphal city according to the needs of the time.
In view of the ever increasing population of the city, there is great urgency to develop its roads, drainage system, water supply facilities, street lights and other civic amenities, noted the Chief Minister.
Observing that organising the workshop was quite opportune, he conveyed his desire to develop Imphal city with a proper plan that would be viable for at least 30 years.
In connection with the proposed development of Imphal city, a standing committee of all the MLAs within the Imphal Municipal Council area was formed, said Ibobi while directing PHED, IFCD and PWD to submit detailed project report at the earliest.
Timely submission of the project report would enable the State Government to elicit a large amount of money from the Union Government, he mentioned.
JNNURM was launched on December 3 last year covering 63 cities across the country.
Today's workshop was also attended by IFCD Minister Phungzathang and Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam as president and guest of honour respectively besides MLA I Hemochandra, MAHUD Commissioner, Chief Town Planner and IMC Chairperson, added the release.
