Imphal, July 13:
In a macabre incident, a Rifleman of the 1st IRB hacked his six year old son and wife to death before committing suicide by hanging.
The incident of double murder and subsequent suicide took place last night at Chalou Maning Leikai under Lamlai police station.
The deceased Rifleman is identified as Lolito (32) of Chalou Maning Leikai.
He was attached to Manipur Police Headquarters while his wife is identified as Khaidem ningol Rebika (33) of Lamlai.
The six year old son murdered was named Rohit.
M Lolito came back home yesterday at about 5 pm after taking leave for five days on health ground.
Lolito was the youngest of three siblings.
After having dinner at about 9 pm, Lolito shut the door of his room and went to sleep.
As there was heavy rainfall last night, no sound of any wailing or shouting could be heard.
At about 5.30 am today, Sanahanba (Lolito's eldest brother) called out to wake up as it was getting late for Rohit to go for tuition class.
However, there was no response to the repeated calls and the door remained shut.
Sensing something amiss, people in the neighbourhood were alerted and later the door was broke down.
on entering the house the people were shocked and dumb-founded to see Rebika and Rohit soaked in blood and dead on the bed.
Even as the mother and the son were found hacked to death in the bed room, Lolito was not found in the room.
As people looked for Lolito, the kitchen was found locked from inside.
Immediately, the kitchen door was also broken open.
There Lolito was found hung to death from the wood work of the roof.
It is believed that IRB rifleman Lolito killed both his wife and son by slashing their necks before hanging himself to death.
The knife (butcher's knife) used in killing the mother and the son was found on the bed.
The mosquito net was also found let down.
Lolito used a nylon rope to hang himself.
Apparently, he stood above a drum which he kicked off after putting the noose around his neck.
Moreover, he put gas cylinder and other objects against the door of the kitchen before committing suicide.
The deceased rifleman was a teetotaller, dutiful and a faithful soldier, said his post commander to media persons.
Family members too conveyed that there was no ill-feeling or misunderstanding between Lolito and other family members.
Neither there was any case of dispute or major differences between Lolito and his wife.
At the work place too, there was no impasse or stand-offs with his colleagues or seniors.
As such, the reason for the double murder and the suicide remain a mystery.
With the registration of a case in Lamlai police station in connection with the mysterious deaths, the corpses of Lolito, Rebika and Rohit have been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS.
