Two engineers of the State Electricity Department have been abducted by some armed persons who identified themselves as cadres of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) demanding Rs 15 crores.
According to the families, Executive Engineer of Electricity Department, Tamenglong Division, Thangjam Tomalchand (58) of Khurai Thangjam Leikai and SO of the same division, Leitanthem Mangi (56) of Kongpal Chanam Leikai went out in the morning of November 6 .
The families came to know about abduction of the duo on November 9 when a staff of Electricity Department conveyed to them the message of abduction sent to the Department by some individuals who identified themselves as cadres of the UPPK.
However, it is still unknown on which day and from which place the two engineers were abducted.
The two engineers went on foot along with contractor Moirangthem Loya alias Bolchu from the residence of the EE at about 9 am of November 6, said Sorojini, wife of EE Tomalchand.
Though Loya is informed to be at Delhi, no contact can be established, she said.
A scooter rode by SO Mangi when he went out of home was found at the residence of Tomalchand.
There has been no monetary demand or threats on personal level from any quarter, Sorojini clarified.
"Though we have met with officials of the department, no definite information could be obtained", she conveyed.
Meanwhile, people staged a protest demonstration near Kongpal Amom bridge today appealing for safe release of the two abducted engineers.
