Apart from exposing alleged irregularities on financial management extended under the Mid-Day Meal scheme to Thoubal district the Operation New Kangleipak (ONK) of the proscribed KYKL has asked Additional Director of Education (Schools) S Gita to surrender to the outfit within ten days.
Parading three persons out of four accused of involvement in the Mid-Day meal fund scam in an Imphal East district area today, a spokesperson of the ONK claimed of detecting the irregularities in the zonal Education Office, ZoneIII (Thoubal) during an investigation conducted after receiving complaints.
identifying the trio who surrendered as the ZEO-III cashier Md Sabir Uddin (56) of Minuthong, N Yaiskul of Thoubal Achouba treasurer of All Manipur elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA) and AMESTA's general secretary Laishram Joykumar (40) of Heirok Part-II, the spokesperson informed the three would be spared from harsh punishment as they had voluntarily surrendered.
Detailing the scam, the spokesperson said ZEO, Thoubal received Rs 21,0436 in July-August 2005 out of which insistence of the then Director Jayenta to part with Rs 50,000 was duly complied by the cashier and two AMESTA functionaries.
He also disclosed of DESAM, Thoubal unit volunteers seizing Rs 35,000 and some documents.
Moreover, separate financial assistance in terms of lakhs to implement the scheme was released to the ZEO-III on September (Rs 29 lakh), October (Rs 42 lakhs) and November (Rs 182 lakhs) months of the same year out of which a sum of Rs 10 lakhs was disbursed to cooks engaged in the Scheme with AMESTA allegedly deducting 12 percent of the total amount.
he further revealed of S Gita getting Rs 50,000, DESAM, Thoubal unit having taken another sum of Rs 50,000 and a UG group extracting 2 percent.
the spokesperson said AMESTA extracted another sum of Rs 70,000 and Gita again claimed Rs 20,000 from the Rs 10,16,735 assistance sanctioned on January this year.
Contending that ONK had received another complaint of Gita's involvement in another case of fraudulent fund use, the spokesperson asserted that the Dy Director had confessed and pledged to rectify her conduct when she was hauled up for corrupt practice related to DPC for recruitment of Hindi Graduate teachers in 1999.for repeated offence Gita would be given capital punishment in case she does not give up to the ONK within the stipulated time-frame, warned the spokesperson and added that involvement of the DESAM unit in the shoddy deals would also be investigated after which appropriate action would be initiated if found guilty.
One of the absconding accused has been identified as AMESTA president S Shamu of Thoubal Haokha and he has been asked to surrender within 7 days.
