Imphal, August 08 2009:
Repairing work along the National Highway 39 stretch from Senapati to Maram to make it motorable has begun.
Conveying this to The Sangai Express, an official source from the Works Department said that repairing work along the said road stretch began since Thursday last and in all 33 machines including one bulldozer, nine JCBs, 20 dipper trucks, two rollers and one motor grader are being used for the purpose.
The source explained that condition of the road stretch from Senapati to Maram had deteriorated as no more original sanction was received after it was last repaired in 2002-2003 by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, which has come to be known as Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways.
To improve the condition of the road stretch, the Works Department has been lobbying the Ministry for sanctioning the required fund for the last two months, the source said, adding that there is hope that the fund would be sanctioned before the next working season.
In the ongoing repairing work, the road stretch would be improved upto the stage where black-topping can be taken up.
By that time, the Ministry would also be sanctioning the required fund and the black-topping of the road would be carried out, the official source further conveyed.
Inspite of being rainy season, the machineries and the man power being used would ensure maintenance of the road being repaired till the next working season, the source said, while pointing out that a joint meeting held earlier with the representatives of all the NGOs in Senapati area had already resolved to ensure no disturbance is caused to the machineries and the manpower being used and faced together any challenge in this regard.
