Imphal, August 02 2011:
The Janata Dal (United) has pledged to highlight continuous protest of Irom Chanu Sharmila against the imposition of the draconian AFSPA-1958 in the ongoing monsoons session of Parliament.
Speaking to newspersons at its Governor Road office today state unit JD (D) president S Indrakumar said in addition to drawing the attention of Indian Parliamentarians on the democratic moment of Sharmila, central party leaders including National President Sharat Yadav and former Defence Minister George Fernandes would be intimated to highlight State's law and order disorder in the Parliament.
To present Manipur's case in the national capital, a four member State JD (U) delegation comprising party president M Tombi, the political organisation's youth wing president Ch Gitan and women front president S Lata will leave tomorrow, he said adding that focus of the team will be to prevail upon central leaders for either amending the Act or total repealing of the draconian law from the entire State of Manipur.
Taking grim note of frequent imposition of bandh or economic blockade on the NH-39 and 53, Indrakumar suggested that agitating parties sort out differences with the Govt through negotiation as targeting vehicles plying on these routes only imperils the general public rather than the demands being conceded by the Govt.Claiming alleged misrule by successive Congress Govt in the state, he said during the tenure of Rishang Keishing as the Chief Minister upgrading Imphal East and Sadar Hills as full-fledged revenue districts was in the final stage.
Holding the Congress party responsible for the current rage on the Sadar hills district demand issue, the state unit president also regretted that W Nipamacha ignored sentiments of the Sadar Hills people when Imphal East was accorded district status.
