Imphal, May 27 2011:
Teachers of government schools are among government employees who attempt to avail no due certificates for electricity consumption without clearing the due bills, alleged Executive Engineer of Electricity Department, T Ibochouba today.
Speaking at a function held in connection with the 4th foundation day of the Progressive Youth Development Association, Kwakeithel, he said that flaws in the working of the Electricity Department coupled with a lack of popular support is the reason behind the power shortage being faced in the state.
People abuse and misuse power in whatever manner they like without seeking any permission from the Electricity Department.
Even local clubs and other NGOs extract power while organising any function without having given any prior notice to the department.
They conveniently forget that the power they consume is not supplied free of cost.
When a club or a NGO wishes to use power, they should take prior permission from the department who in turn to provide a temporary bill for power consumption, he said.
MLA Dr Kh Loken graced the function as chief guest which was presided by Dr Ch Mangi.
IMC councillor, Sumila attended as guest of honour.
