Police Department honours Olympians

The Manipur Police Department today presented cash rewards to the five State Olympians during a felicitation function hosted in their honour at the Banquet Hall of 1st MR.
On the occasion, Home Minister Gaikhangam handed over Rs 5 lakhs to Mary Kom, who won a Bronze Medal in 51 kg women boxing in London Olympics, and Rs 1 lakh each to the remaining four Olympians namely L Devendro, Ng Sonia, L Bombayla and Kh Kothajit.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam said that even though the State is small in size, yet it has a large pool of talented human resources.
If only these talented human resources are polished with proper discipline, the State could be at the top in all spheres.

Gaikhangam further stated that supporting sportsperson during their high time is normal.
But what is required is the need to support them even after their retirement from sports.
If such supports are not provided, there would be problems in their future.
So, the state government is planning to come up with special assistance for retired sportspersons.
Delivering the Presidential address, DGP, Y Joykumar said that since last year the Manipur Police Department has been driving funds for the welfare of sports personalities.
From the funds collected, the department is honouring the State Olympians today with cash prizes.
The five State Olympians also expressed their thankfulness to the Police Department for the honour and other initiatives being taken up for the sportspersons of the state.
