With Manipur assembly elections round the corner, the opposition BJP has decided to organize a national party leaders' meet in Imphal and, the party said it does not want to revoke Armed forces (special powers) Act, 1958 from the state of Jammu and Kashmir, but in case of Northeast, the controversial act should be repealed.
Addressing media person at a function held at the BJP state office at Nityaipat Chuthek, Tapir Gao, National General Scretary, BJP said that even though petroleum products are procured into the state in huge quantities, people are still unable to get enough supply of petrol at present.
When petrol run dry in all petrol pumps in the state, one can find people selling it on roadsides.
The prices at which petrol is being sold here must be the highest in the world.
He further went on to say that "For the first time in Manipur, a BJP national party leaders' meet will be held in Imphal on December 10, the party's General secretary, Tapir Gao told reporters here." Tapir has been in Imphal for the last three days campaigning for the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.
He also informed that the national party leaders' meet would be attended by BJP top brass including its senior leaders L.K.Advani, Sushma Swaraj, opposition leader in Lok Sabha, Arun Jaitly, opposition leader in Rajya Sabha and national chief spokesperson, Ravi Shankar Prashad.
All the saffron party's unit presidents of the Northeast, including 10 general secretaries of the party would also be participating at the meet, Tapir said, adding that the meet is organizing in connection with the general elections expecting February next year.
When he was asked to comment about revocation of AFSPA from Manipur, the BJP general secretary said, the party wants to repeal the act from the Northeast but not from Jammu and Kashmir because foreign elements are present in that state" .
