The Presidential Council meeting of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has decided to suspend the ATSUM sponsored ' indefinite economic blockade' - which began from July 15 - from today following a meeting with the Chief Minister and leaders of the students' body.
Informing this in a press statement, information and publicity secretary of ATSUM, G Gaisingam stated the meeting decided that temporary building for running IGNTU and arrangement of necessary infrastructure and formal inauguration of the site will take place before September 15 .
On Manipur University, the meeting also agreed that the Education Minister and TD Minister would lead a joint team of government and tribal students' leaders to meet the HRD Minister in New Delhi on August 12 and apprise him of the plights of the tribal students at MU.
The Chief Minister was also said to have agreed to pass the 'rules for Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services for (SC and ST) Act, 2007 in the next cabinet meeting to facilitate immediate implementation.
Tabling of the same in the next Assembly has also been assured, according to the ATSUM statement.
The government has also reportedly agreed to intervene on the recruitment issue in the Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat and see the reservation norms are followed.
On recruitment under MSRRDA, the RD and PR Minister told that the present recruitment has been done to formally approve the employees in various districts on contract basis and it has not been meant for fresh candidate.
ATSUM will confirm the claims of the Minister, the statement conveyed.
The students' body has also been assured that there was no diversion of funds meant for construction of health centres and institutions in the hill districts.
The meeting held at the office chamber of the CM was attended by three advisors of ATSUM along with the presidents of CDSU and ZSUM, TD, Education and RD&PR ministers and the Chief Minister.
