Imphal, November 06 2010: Four hovercrafts imported from the United State of America for use in counter insurgency operations in loktak Lake are arriving in December this year, said Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi today while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of Morang Thoibi and Town Bazar at Moirang.

Speaking at the function held at INA hall, the Chief Minister said that most of the ongoing major projects taken up in the state will be completed before the general election to the state Assembly.

The election to the state Assembly, mention may be made, is likely to be held in the first part of 2012 .

The four hovercrafts procured by the state will be arriving in December.

Thes hovercrafts will be used by the Loktak Protection Force.

Personnel of the force have already been imparted training.

They will be stationed at four stations for operations in the lake.

Deployment of this force has been delayed due to the non-arrival of the hovercrafts, Ibobi said.

Chief Minister also announced that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi who was scheduled to come to the state before Ningol Chakouba is coming on November 12.During her visit, a foundation stone of the construction of a hall in the INA Complex will be laid.

Asserting that Moirang is one of the important tourist spots in the state, the Chief Minister said that government has many plans to develop the area.

The INA hall is one of the projects to be taken up in Moirang.

The hall which will be of international standard is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore.

Rs 12 crore has already been sanctioned, he added.

The Moirang to Sendra road will also be developed as a six-lane road.

Eviction of residences on both sides of the stretch of the road will start soon, he said urging the people to corporate with the government's plan.

Government is also considering construction of a road called Keisha road.

Ibobi also said that the phumdi clearance work in the Loktak lake is in progress and it will not give any undue impact to the Keibul Lamjao National Park.

Government has a plan to preserve and develop the park.

The market place which was inaugurated today was constructed at a cost of Rs five crore with PDA as implementing agency.

Out of the total cost Rs 3.80 crore was from state fund while the rest was received from various other sources.

PDA chairman, MLA Dr Kh Loken who attended the inaugural function as guest of honour appealed to the people of the area, particularly to the authority of the Moirang Municipal Council to keep the market shed neat and clean.

MLA M Prithiraj presided the function in which work minister K Ranjit, MLA T Mangibabu, former MLA Salam Gopal and MMC chairperson S Jibanlata were present in the podium.
