Imphal, August 04 2009:
Around 50 representatives of various students' and civil society organisations have staged a demonstration against state terrorism in Manipur at Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi today despite the imposition of CrPC 144 by CM O Ibobi.
Chief Minister O Ibobi has also reportedly turned down the request to meet with him and submit a memorandum to his hand.
He was neither ready to admit with his criminality nor have shown any respect for a democratic dialogue on the issue of restoring peace and justice in Manipur, according to an email statement issued by the Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MASAD).
The demonstrators raised slogans like 'State Terrorism Down Down, Ibobi Government Down Down, Manipur Police Commando Down Down, Long Live Democracy, We Want Justice, and Long Live People's Struggle'.
The protestors have also expressed solidarity to the ongoing struggle against the State Terrorism in Manipur.
The Delhi Police, in collusion with Ibobi, had prevented the collective from entering into the Bhavan that has been converted into a fortified elite zone for the last few years.
Finally, the collective submitted a resolution addressed to the Chief Minister through the Residents Commissioner, Manipur Bhavan, the MASAD statement added.
The resolution highlights the seemingly suspension of right to life as security personnel have become perpetrator of extra-judicial killing of civilians in fake encounters.
It noted that the fake encounter of 23 July 2009 is a glaring example of this brutality of the MPC.
The resolution condemns terrorism in any form in any part of Manipur and any further attempt to extend the state terrorism in any part of Manipur, both hills and valley.
It further demands immediate revoking of the false statement of 23 July made by the CM but also his resignation on moral ground considering the precariousness of life that his rule in Manipur has created.
It demands immediate and complete dismissal and strongest punishment of the MPC terrorists responsible for killing of the civilians.
The signatories of the resolution included Manisha Sethi of Jamia Teachers' Solidarity Association; Tungshang Ningreichon of Naga People's Movement for Human Rights; Remlien of Hmar Students' Association; Sira Kharay of Naga Students' Union Delhi; Birju Nayak of Lok Raj Sangathan; Malem Ningthouja of Campaign For Peace & Development (Manipur); Dhwajendra Dhawal of Progressive Democratic Students' Union; Oinam Sandhyarani of Manipur Students' Association Delhi; Madhu Chandra of North East Support Centre; Gautam Navalakha of People's Union for Democratic Rights; and Sourabh of Pratidhwani.
