Imphal, December 14 2008: THE RECENTLY rechristened United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) has made it clear that the party has not yet appointed its Finance Secretary and also printed the party's letterheads relating to financial matters.

This was informed by Khuman Laishramcha, Assistant Secretary in-charge, District Committee Member (DCM), Information and Publicity Department, UPPK in a press note made available here today.

The press note stated that the statement released by Imphal East district SP, Th Radheshyam saying that one Koijam Lemba Meetei @ Nanao (24), son of late K Ibomcha Meetei of Khurai Chaithabi, who allegedly works under self styled Finance Secretary of UPPK, Salam Keshorjeet (28), son of S Shamungou (58) of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, to deliver demand letters for extortion, has been arrested from Khurai Salanthong around 6.30 am of December 10 is not only unfounded but also a cheap propaganda to deliberately malign the reputation of UPPK.

The press note gave four reasons why the statement of Imphal East district SP is not correct: first, Finance Secretary for the UPPK has not been appointed as yet, an in-charge is looking after the financial matters of the party.

Second, the Central Committee has not yet taken a decision to give consent to have letterheads of the Finance Department printed.

Third, the party has not yet started mobilising funds and has not yet given consent for the same, not to speak of demanding money from the people, and fourth, the UPPK has no relationship whatsoever with self styled Finance Secretary Salam Keshorjeet and the party does not know him.

Besides, the party does not have any links whatsoever with Koijam Lemba Meetei @ Nanao who is at present in the custody of police and the party does not know him by name or by looks as well, Khuman Laishramcha stated.

He further asked Imphal East district SP, Radheshyam to show the people the letterheads of UPPK which the party itself has not yet seen, and also identify whose houses the demand letters were delivered to.

Moreover, Salam Keshorjeet and Koijam Lemba Meetei @ Nanao should also make a clarification to the people through the newspapers regarding the truth as soon as possible.

If they fail to make the clarification soon, people should not take offence with and stand against the party when it metes out punishment to the two persons, warned the press note.
