Imphal, May 28, 2011:
"As they don't want to suppress, we do not want them to be suppressed" said Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio Saturday, speaking at the launching ceremony of the NFP's Manipur unit.
Rio accompanied by some of his ministers, leaders of NPF including its president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and a Member of Parliament were among others who came all the way from Kohima to Senapati in more than a hundred vehicles.
The Nagaland Chief Minister said that he and his party have no intention to break the law and order of Manipur.
"We are coming here only for party purposes, not for disturbing the peace and tranquility in the state.
We come to Manipur for peace, not for confrontation" he added.
Giving a hint that the Union Home Minister's intervention was behind Manipur government's clearing his visit, Rio thanked Chidambaram for enabling him to participate in the launching ceremony of his party unit in the state.
Talking about the issues ahead of the Naga people, the Chief Minister said that Nagas were divided by the then British government for the convenience of their administration.
"We the Nagas were protected by the Government of India when the British left.
The British had recognized the Nagas," he said.
The Indian government also recognizes the Nagas.
"We should be emotionally, culturally, politically and socially integrated.
The seed we have sown today will surely bear fruit," he said.
"Naga people desire to live under an umbrella political party," he added.
