Imphal, May 27 2011:
Pointing out the contents in the constitution of the Naga People's Front, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) Friday criticized the Election Commission of India for giving recognition to the NPF as a political party.
Senior leader O Joy pointed out Article X (A), (1) of the NPF's constitution states that "Any citizen of Nagaland who subscribes to the principles of the Naga People's Front shall be eligible for primary membership of the party" and O Joy alleged that the Election Commission of India, it seems is not aware of this section of the constitution of the party.
This article of the party clearly indicates that the NPF extends it membership only to citizens of Nagaland and not to others.
It shows that the party is a communal party and as per the rules of the Election Commission of India, no recognition should be given to such "communal minded" party.
Political parties in the Northeastern states where the NPF is planning to expand its activities should challenge the recognition of the party by the ECI.
For the MPP, "We are of the option that we should go to the Supreme Court and challenge the constitution of the NPF," Joy said.
Besides this, he asked, how such a party to which only people from Nagaland could be enrolled as members can open a unit in Manipur.
This clearly shows that the motive behind the party is to disintegrate the territorial integrity of Manipur, he maintained.
NPF has emerged as a problem creator in the Northeast states, particularly in Manipur.
Expansion of its unit outside the state Nagaland should be unitedly prevented at any cost by the political parties in the region, he urged.
Terming the NPF as a puppet of the NSCN-IM, Joy alleged that leaders of the NPF are being used by the NSCN-IM to fulfill their dream of forming a Greater Nagaland by disintegrating its neighbouring states.
"With the NSCN-IM being unable to achieve its ends with an armed struggle," they have colluded with the NPF to resort to 'political' means to fulfill their dream, he alleged.
Further pointing out Article II (C) of the NPF's constitution, "To work for unity and integrity of the people by integrating all contiguous Naga inhabited areas under one administrative roof and also to provide protection to all ethnic groups who are indigenous inhabitants of the state," Joy asserted that this clearly shows that the party is trying to break the integrity of Manipur among others.
Political parties in the state should stand unitedly to prevent the NPF expanding its activities in Manipur as it will lead to unrest and create communal hatred among the people of the state.
He also urged the leaders of the NPF to step back from its decision to launch its unit in Manipur and cancel plans to launch a unit in Senapati district.
He also expressed belief that the leaders of the NPF will not indulge in acts which will create problems in its neighbouring states.
