Ukhrul holds candle light vigil for 'troubled northeasterners'

Ukhrul, August 25 2012:
People from different communities joined hands for a candle vigil and bowed down to say a prayer on Saturday evening at Gandhi Chowk here for the northeasterners living in different metro cities across the country.
The initiative, held following the spate of random attacks on northeasterners in various Indian cities, was jointly organized by Tangkhul on Facebook, Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) .
Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner R Sudhan and Superintendent of Police K Kabib joined hundreds of others including school students and people from different walks of life in lighting candles at the memorial Gandhi Chowk.

Sudhan lauded the efforts of the organizers for taking the initiative to organize the programme which he felt is "very sensitive and important," while also saying "nothing untoward should happen to our people" .
He added that "we should work together and discourage spreading rumours that can affect our community" .
The DC assured that the district administration will extend every possible help to whomever facing problem in the cities and urged the people to come forward to share their problems.
Ukhrul SP Kabib also expressed solidarity to those northeasterners affected by random attacks and termed the incidents as unfortunate.
He appealed to the Ukhrul citizens to approach the district authorities that if anyone of their kins are facing problems and assured to extend possible help.
Tangkhul Choir presented a soul rending song as the public hold the candles and placed them around the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
