Imphal, November 12 2009: A water supply project for Ancestral War Memorial cum Biodiversity Park located at Ningsingkhul, Jiribam was formally inaugurated by Major General Shakti Gurung, VSM, GOC, 57 Mountain Division today.

Senior Army Officials and a large gathering of civil dignitaries were also present during the function, a PIB (DW) statement informed.

The project involved digging a tube well, installation of a submersible pump, laying of water pipe line, construction of a power house and water storage facility.

The project worth Rs 4 lacs is one of the major projects undertaken by the Army in the area.

The project was undertaken by 5 Assam Rifles with the assistance of a local NGO, Pari Puri Athouba Ningsing Lup (PPANL), it stated.

The project will resolve the water crisis existing at the Ancestral War Memorial cum Biodiversity Park.

During the inauguration, General Gurung mentioned that inaugurating the project at a sombre place like a War Memorial is a privilege.

He also thanked the locals, for assisting the army in the successful completion of the project.

He also added that more such projects will be undertaken in future which will bridge the gap between the locals and the Army, the PIB (DW) statement added.
