Imphal, August 12 2009:
An amount of Rs 10,000 each was donated by RK Shivachandra, founder-chairman of RK Sanayaima Memorial Charitable Trust, today, to the families of Rabina and Sanjit, who were killed on July 23 at the crowded Khwairamband market in Imphal in a fake encounter by Manipur police commandos, as a gesture expressing solidarity and commiseration to the pain and suffering being endured by the two families, and also to Naorem Prakash, whose right eye was scraped allegedly by a bullet fired by police commandos during the agitation that followed as aftermath to the killing.
It may be mentioned here that Rabina was killed by a stray bullet while shopping in the market with her son and Sanjit was killed in a fake encounter after being taken into custody by police commandos.
Prakash was hurt in a clash between security forces and agitators during the agitation against the killing of Rabina and Sanjit.
He has been referred to Delhi for an eye operation which may or may not restore his sight in his right eye.
RK Shivachandra said that he shared the grief and pain of the families of the victims of the unfortunate incidents and appealed to all individuals and organizations in Manipur to help the victims and their families, regardless of whether it is big or small.
