RBI organized financial outreach programme in Ukhrul

RBI has organised a financial outreach programme in Ukhrul on March 21 to ensure steady progress of financial inclusion in the state of Manipur.
Deepak Mohanty, ED, RBI, Bhaskar Sen, CMD, United Bank of India, R Muivah, state principal secretary (works), Surekaha Marandi, Regional Director, RBI, Guwahati, N Ashok Kumar, Ukhrul DC, PK Roy, General Manager, United Bank of India were among the dignitaries present.
On the occasion, United Bank of India has opened a branch at Mini Secretariat Building at unbanked Hundung village, Ukhrul having population over 2000 as a part of its financial inclusion programme.
Besides, Bank has handed over Kisan credit card to 105 farmers involving loan amount of Rs.26.25 lakh and opened a counter to distribute fresh small notes and coins and also to offer note exchange facility for mutilated and soil notes to the common people in the locality.
Speaking on the occasion Bhaskar Sen, CMD, United Bank of India informed that the Bank has a dominant presence in Eastern & North Eastern states.
With the opening of this branch, total branches of UBI comes to 1583 and 17 in Manipur state respectively.
Out of those 1583 branches, 269 branches are in Eastern and North Eastern states.
He informed that Bank has made a plan to extend banking facilities in 1880 villages having population over 2000 by March 2012 by opening physical branches or through Business correspondent model using ICT solution.
He said that Bank has opened branches in 8 unbanked villages under the Financial Inclusion Plan.
Besides Ukhrul, Bank has opened another branch at Temenglong Bazar in the state of Manipur on March 10, 2011 to cater to the banking needs of the unbanked Tamei and Tousem block in the state.
He further informed that bank has so far covered 650 unbanked villages having population over 2000 under FI plan by Business correspondent model using Biometric Smart Card where around 1.50 lakh households were enrolled.
