Daniel Leivon Lamkang, member, International Sports Coalition (ISC) South Africa ans USA and joint secretary Tribal NGOs Forum Manipur had an hour interaction with Agatha Sangma, Union Minister of State for Rural Development at Churachandpur on October 19 last during the minister's visit itinerary.
Daniel Lamkang highlighted the traditional and indigenous design and the beautiful flying colours of different varieties of Lamkang Naga traditional attires.
He told the Minister that the Lamkang Naga young girls are wearing different hand woven dresses which signify their identity.
Saying that the colourful traditional wears of all communities - including the tribal, Meiteis, Muslims', etc of Manipur are displayed on the ramp in various cultural and indigenous festivals - Daniel apprised the Minister that it would be implausible to display the traditional attires of all communities on a common platform.
During an hour long meeting, Daniel touched on issues like the deferment of the NEI Gospel Olympic scheduled to be held from October 13 to 18, importance of bringing in quality education in the state, state's sports potential, and means to imbibe games spirit among the sportspersons.
Daniel Lamkang is a social activist who started his career as a social service since his schooling days.
He has served the NSUB, MSUB, LKK, NSUC, DRDA, ANSAM, ISC, FCA, TNFM, etc in different capacities.
He was also once the assistant manager of Pizza Corner India Pvt Ltd, Bangalore.
Daniel represents Manipur and North-East states in various sports conferences, seminars, workshops, etc.
The colourful traditional shawl worn by the Union Minister, Agatha Sangma, during her recent visit was the traditional shawl of Lamkang Naga tribe.
