Imphal, February 22 2009:
The indefinite curfew imposed in the Imphal and Greater Imphal areas since Thursday evening was relaxed for five hours, 9 a.m.to 2 p.m.on Sunday with probable signs of normalcy returning in the state capital as no any untoward incidents.
District authorities of the Imphal East and Imphal West have been imposing curfew in the two districts for an indefinite period of time since Thursday evening from 5:00 in the wake of peoples uprising in protest against the merciless murder of the Kasom Khullen SDO and his two subordinate staff by miscreants suspected to be cadres of a militant outfit after abduction.
It is also worth noting here that the curfew was imposed by the district authorities before ending the 48-hour general strike called by the JAC formed in connection with the murder of the SDO and his two staff with extended support from various civil organizations based in the state.
And despite being a Sunday and a holiday the Imphal city wore a crowded look as people of all works converged in the city to collect essential commodities during the curfew relaxation hours.
The relaxation also caused much traffic jam in the city due to the heavy rushing of the people and attempts to collect or performed their works during the curfew relaxation hours.
This relaxation also comes close on the heels of the two hours relaxation on Friday which also saw the Imphal city wearing a crowded look.
