Police today raided the office of the Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) and rounded up seven functionaries of the body along with general secretary of the All Manipur Ethnical Social Cultural Organisation.
The seven functionaries of the AMUCO were its finance secretary Sungchen Koireng of Lamphel Sanakeithel, publicity secretary Likmabam Tompok of Maklang, assistant finance secretary A Soken of Wangoo, assistant finance secretary Irom Brojen of Haorang Khunou, assistant secretary (organization) Toarem Ramanda of Patsoi part-I, office secretary G Sharat Kabui of Langthabal and Thiyam Dinesh of Takhellambam Leikai.
The general secretary of AMESCO who has also been picked up by the police was identified as Shamjetsabam Nando Luwang of Yumnam Khunou presently residing at Pangei Bazar.
A combined team of Singjamei police led by its OC, Mangi and Imphal West Police Commandos led by its OC, I Khaba raided the office of AMUCO this afternoon at about 3 o'clock.
Keeping confined all the people in the office, police conducted search to the office.
Later the eight persons were taken away in two Maruti Gypsy vehicles by the police.
The rounding up of the eight persons were made after a team of Imphal west police commandos apprehended Yumnam Jiten (35) of Mayai Koibi, joint secretary of Citizens' Concerns on Dam and Development from the gate of the Imphal Airport, said a responsible police officer.
The body (CCDD) is campaigning against the construction of Tipaimukh dam and Jiten is taing active role in campaigning against the construction of dam, the officer added.
During interrogation, jiten disclosed that he is very closely working with AMUCO.
Apart from this, he is also taking an active role in the campaign for ouster of chief minister O Ibobi and also organized in publishing reports against the chief minister to the national media in New Delhi.
Jiten also admitted that he do the things as per advice with the advice from AMUCO, the officer said adding that based on his disclosure police rounded up the members of the AMUCO for interrogation.
The police officer who did not want to name further said that an FIR will be registered against them on the charge of working in close associate with the proscribed RPF.
They will be charged with case related with involvement in breaching the tranquility of the people and indulged in misleading youths.
After a high level meeting of the police officer held this evening, police has decided to arrest them.
They will be produced in the court of the chief judicial magistrate after registering an FIR case against them seeking remand to the police custody for investigation into the charges to be leveled against them, the officer added.
However, the police officer refused to give comment on further action to the members of AMUCO and whether further drive to nab AMUCO's functionaries including its president.
