Assembly session to be summoned on January 13

The state Cabinet has decided to recommend the Governor to summon the 7th session of the 9th state Assembly from January 13 next year.
The Cabinet also approved of appointment of 109 sportspersons (national gold medalists in different events) to government jobs, filling up of posts in various departments, to table a bill regarding amendment of Manipur Higher Secondary Education Act 1992, etc.
The cabinet meeting held this afternoon at the Cabinet room of the Chief Minister's secretariate discussed the proposal of summoning the 7th session of the current 9th Assembly session on January 13 next year.
Mention may be made that the 6th session of the Manipur Assembly which was adjourned sine die on July 27 was prorogued on September 5 last by the Governor.
The number of sitting of the 7th session which would be the winter session of the state Assembly will be decided later by the business advisory board after the Governor officially summons it.
The cabinet approved of the appointment of 109 sportspersons who won gold medals in national level sport events to government jobs.
Nineteen of them will be absorbed in state education department, 50 as the riflemen of IRB or constable in the state police department while 40 in the Youth and Sports Department (YAS), source said.
After a thorough discussion, the cabinet also approved to the tabling of a bill on the amendment of Manipur Higher Secondary Education Act in the next session of the Assembly.
The proposed amendment related with the rule and regulation for the appointment of chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary Education.
Once the bill passed by the Assembly and enacted, a person who serve as additional director of the Education (S) and (U) or serve for 18 years as senior grade lecturer on regular basis can be appointed as chairman of the council.
The cabinet also approved to the upgradation of pay scale of the graduate physical education teachers from the current scale of Rs 6500 to 8000, from Rs 4500 to Rs 5500 and for the under-graduate of the same category from Rs 4000 to 45000 and from Rs 4500 to 5500.This will be applicable for only teachers who served for 12 year.
To ensure graduate teachers of the education (s) department recruited in 2007 to allow to the place of posting where they were given at the time appointment, appointment of 10 teachers under SSA, handing over of Watershed Management Projects from the Rural Development Department to Planning department and division of post of additional chief engineer (electrical) into two as SE (electrical and SE (Mechanical) was also approved by the cabinet.
