Imphal, August 08 2009:
The manipur Police Department has called up additional police force including women personnel from other districts of the state and deployed them in Imphal East and West districts where protest against the 'fake encounter' is obviously on the rise.
Security in and around the Chief Minister's official bungalow has also been beefed up from today.
The beefed up security at the gate of the Chief Minister's bungalow has been necessitated to prevent any protest like the famous women-in-nude protest staged in front of Kangla gate five years back in July 2004 in the backdrop of the killing of Thangjam Manorama.
A highly placed official source said that the additional police personnel have been called up by an order of the DGP.
Women personnel from other districts have reached Imphal and reported to the SPs concerned.
They have been pressed into service from today onwards in sensitive areas of two districts but male police personnel are yet to report to the SPs concerned.
The state government has called out CRPF including women personnel and depoloyed them at very important points in the Imphal city specially Raj Bhavan gate and CM's bungalow.
But there were no reports calling out Rapid Action Force from the Centre.
Meanwhile, state authorities have also started taking up security measures ahead of the Patriots Day and Independence Day on August 13 and 15 respectively.
Personnel of MR and IRB have started deploying in important places in Imphal.
Security measure has been also been beefed up around Babupara, where the CM's Bungalow is located, as there is probability of naked protest to be staged there.
The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup, which is spearheading the agitations, has been demanding the resignation of CM Okram Ibobi on moral ground.
Refusing to leave nothing to chance, security forces were protecting the area.
The western gate, and the northern gate adjacent to Kangla have been heavily guarded by security forces.
The CM's bungalow gates were heavily guarded today during the curfew relaxation hour.
Police personnel including women personnel led by high ranking police officers were deployed to have a close watch at the gates today.
The police personnel were also assisted by the personnel of CRPF Mahila Unit.
The personnel were deployed till late in the evening as there is likelihood of the protest being staged there during curfew hours too, the source said.
It may be mentioned that three leaders of Apunba Lup have been arrested by the police right after meeting the Governor on August 4.They were arrested on charge that they are masterminding naked protest.
