Imphal, October 29 2012:
The Nungba Village Authority has urged the Government of Manipur to take up immediate action against Electricity Department for its negligence in maintaining power lines and electric transformers in Nungba area.
Saying that one Abel Gangmei (13) s/o Jiangam Gangmei was electrocuted on October 26 by a high tension wire which was just five feet above the ground, the village authority asserted that the fatal mishap occurred due to negligence on the part of Electricity Department.
Apart from absence of lineman to look after power lines, electric posts of both HT and LT lines are in dilapidated condition.
Moreover, electric transformers are also not repaired, protected/fenced which is dangerous for children and stray animals, said a press release issued by the village authority.
Demanding ex-gratia for Abel Gangmei, replacement of old posts as well as clearing of bushy areas around transformers, the village authority threatened to launch democratic forms of agitation if the Government fails to take up necessary action at the earliest.
