Imphal, February 24 2009:
With signs of normalcy returning to the Imphal areas after unrest in the wake of the uprising in connection to the murder of Kasom Khullen SDO and his two staffs, the indefinite curfew imposed in the Imphal area was on Tuesday relaxed for ten hours, 7:00 am-5:00 pm.With no untoward incident reported during the relaxation, the district magistratesinformed that the curfew will be relaxed for 12 hours on Wednesday, i.e.6:00 am.

The curfew had been imposed in the state under Cr.
PC 144 sub section 5 of 1973. Meanwhile, showing solidarity over the killing of the SDO of Kasom Khullen and his two staffs, a series of sit-in-protests were carried out by various civil society organizations (CSO) and students in different parts of the state including Imphal, Thoubal and Senapati districts on Tuesday.
During the protest staged at the Thoubal and Imphal districts, placards which read, "Declare the list of those who are going to be next", "Declare NSCN-IM as terrorist", "Is the Manipur Government and the central government endorsing the killing", "Human lives does not have price like government job"etc.
On the other hand official sources informed that students and youths of Senapati district also staged a sit in protest at Senapati bazaar on Tuesday morning.
The sources said that during the protest all government offices, education institutions and business establishment remain closed.
